It is Carnival and Trinidad had one of his major events last night. New Soca Monarch 2012 in the Groovy and Power section both is Machel Montano. Congratulations! Wonder what made him come back to the competition after all the years - just too prove that he is a class of his own?
It’s Christmas time and many of you might already done with Silent Night Holy Night and a Merry this a Merry that. I’ve put together a mix of Parang Soca, a seasonal music from Trinidad in the Caribbean. So even if you can’t hear any more Christmas music I’m sure you still will enjoy this one. From all phantastic music genres in the whole wide world Parang is my absolute favorite. Parang is a christmas music mainly from Trinidad, linked to Parranda in Venezuela. Classic Parang is usually played by a small bands with cuatro, guitar and maracas or other percussion small enough to move from house to house visiting neighbours and celebrate christmas. Traditionally lyrics in Spanish with spiritual background - although modern Parang and Parang Soca usually deals more with the spirits in your glas, eating and celebrating.

I did some research on these fruits as they are very common in the Caribbean. They are called Suriname Cherry or Brazil Cherry or lat. Eugenia uniflora. Some call it Ceres which comes from the latin word ceresia - cherry.
