Interesting special in the German Spiegel Online about selling music in the internet. Interviews with small indie labels, bookers, and our digital distributor Finetunes. The said numbers (sales, income) are really depressing and even companies, who do the full 360 degrees business circle (music, merch + booking), end up with a small income. Good news is: we do much better than I thought with what we do far from mainstream.

Nice cover version of “Famn fo” by the legendary zouk singer Edith Lefel, a classic Rubinel production and also one of my all-time favorite songs. Couldn’t find much info on Sabor a Miel, but this cover version seems also produced by Rubinel.

Interesting discussion on Matt Shadetek’s blog about how to make music as a label and artist. Matt is the guy behind Dutty Artz. Esp. this quoted statement sounds too familiar to me:

As I result I teach music, I consult on internet stuff, edit video, do DJ gigs, run a record label and when I have a few hours in between all that dash into my studio and make some beats as fast I can.

Happy birthday to our new website project - TropicalBass.com - which started in the first week of Febr. 2010. Six months might not be worth a full celebration, but in the first year you celebrate every little step your baby is doing. Anyway, the website is doing good, we have a nice team of enthusiasts and music lovers doing deep research and listening through gigabytes of music, and the site is already widely known and read within the Tropical / World Bass scene.

So far TropicalBass has 265 articles, over 600 Facebook fans and over 10 000 page views per month. And we not running full 100% yet.

Soundtrack for this Sunday: Yol la rivé by Jeff Joseph (singer of the Cadence-lypso band Grammacks from Dominica, one of the originators of this genre) and dancehall singer Byron (out of Martinique but not 100% sure). Kinda missed out that big tune from 2008.

Multiple sign-in at Gmail

Google gives you now the option to login in different accounts at the same time in the same browser. The feature was rolled out yesterday and should be available now everywhere. This is very handy if you use like me different Gmail adresses for work and private.

This feature must be activated first which is pretty simple: Go to your account settings. Press “Edit” at “Multiple sign-in”.

Check all boxes to confirm that you have understand, that the multiple sign-in is not working for all products and the offline mail will be deactivated.

Save this page and logout now from Google.

After the next login a little arrow appears right to your account name. Press the arrow and connect your account to the other account. From now on you can switch back and forth between both accounts.

Kleine Anmerkung: DRM-freie Musikdownload-Plattformen gibt es nicht, weil Apple das so gemacht hat, sondern Apple macht das (mittlerweile) so, da sich die Schutzmechanismen als ineffektiv erwiesen haben und die meisten anderen Plattformen von DRM abgesehen haben.

It’s been a long while since I have seen double dutch action. Totally hooked on that video now - though I am not a fan of Drum’n’Bass music at all, Jamaica’s Cecile is doing a great job here on DJ Fresh’s beat. Definately will put this tune in my selection.
