Future of Caribbean music sales

As we all know the music industry, esp the Caribbean music industry is seeking for business models which work. There are two interesting discussions at the moment, one on Facebook where Mark of iRibbeantunes says “Free music we can’t affort” and the other one on dancehallmusic.de (in German) talking about the new release policy of Jamaican producer crew Daseca (based on an article on dancehall.mobi).

In both discussions I made my point that free music will have a measurable positive effect for promotion and sales figures if it’s done right.

Just found out that there is a options to set up pages in Tumblr incl. customized URL. Thanks, that’s exactly what I have been waiting for a long time! Here is my first page.

Page means - like in Wordpress - that the article is not in chronical order, it is fixed in the timeline.

Aus einem Gutachten der Deutschen Umwelthilfe (DUH) und des Bundesverband Erneuerbare Energien (BEE) ergibt sich, dass länger laufende Atomkraftwerke oder neue Kohlekraftwerke dazu führen, dass der Bund sein Klimaschutzziel, den CO2-Ausstoß bis 2050 um rund 90 Prozent zu senken, nicht erreicht.

Copyright law gives copyright owners the exclusive right to copy work, such as music and film, issue copies to the public and make changes to the work. Doing any of these without the permission of the copyright holder is against the law. For example, anyone copying purchased music CDs to play on an MP3 music player, an activity known as format-shifting, is breaking copyright law.

Looking to further its mission of making your software, and your media, free of restrictions, Ubuntu is bundling an Ubuntu One Music Store into 10.04, the next release of the Linux operating system due out in April. The store uses 7Digital as its provider, likely due to its greater international availability than Amazon’s own offering, and looks to be integrated into the Rhythmbox music player.

Silver Stars won Trinidad Panorama 2010

I am very happy to announce that the steel pan band Silver Stars just won the Panorama 2010 competition in Trinidad. Panorama in Trinidad is the most important competition for all panists and steel bands.

Silver Stars performed the song “Battle Zone” by Anselm Douglas, which is released on my label Faluma. Silver Stars also won in Panorama title in 2009 with an interpretation of “First in de line”

One of the most important competitions in Trinidad Carnival, the Soca Monarch on Fantastic Friday is over. 2010 champion are JW & Blaze with ‘Palance’; defending champion Fay-Ann Lyon placed 3rd.
