Ovaherero skulls finally to be returned to Africa

Finally: over 100 years after the Genocide of German troops in Namibia the stolen bones of the victims who where sitting at the Charité Klinik in Berlin for racial research and measuring will be returned to Namibia. Why took it so long for Germany and Charité to return these skulls - just to keep the myth that Germany has no colonial past?

For the repatriation of the mortal remains of Herero and Nama, who were killed by German troops during the Genocide of 1904-08, an official delegation from the Republic of Namibia is expected in Berlin. The remains from the numerous German “concentration camps” in the former “German Southwest Africa” were sent over one hundred years ago to the pathological institute in Berlin and to other German research institutions for “scientific measuring.” “By using shards of glass,” so says the original subtitle of the contemporary photography pictured above, the skulls had to be “freed of flesh and made ready” by the wives of those murdered before being sent off.
